The Hilmans had a small party at their house tonight to celebrate the New Year. The food was absolutely amazing.

What a RC Plane Sees When You Try to Kill It With Fireworks – Uav – Gizmodo.
Slight language in the gizmodo posting, but this video made the boys ask me if we could start flying model airplanes like the guys who fly them next to the football fields at our practices and games. I think the answer is YEAH!!!
Merry Xmas!
After a morning of opening gifts and playing Rock Band, we went to Jodi and Fred’s house for a small party.
Snow
We had our first big snowstorm of the year last night. It looks like we got a little over a foot here. After shoveling out, Bill and Matt were playing catch in the street while the kids messed around on the piles of snow.
More tree and Santa!
As we were working on decorating the tree this afternoon, Santa showed up to tour the neighborhood before Xmas!
Xmas Tree!
While Melissa was at basketball with Logan, we went and got a tree at The Farm and Garden Station. It’s setup in the living room now, but we’re waiting for Logan to come home from his friend Garret’s before we decorate it.
Latkes
I decided to try making sweet potato latkes this year for Hanukkah. I grabbed a couple recipes off the internet and modified them a little bit, it’d be pretty hard to mess up latkes I think.
Here’s how I ended up making them.
2 large sweet potatoes peeled and grated coarsely
4 or 5 medium yukon gold potatoes peeled and grated coarsely
2 medium sized red onions grated coarsely
3 pretty big, cored granny smith apples grated coarsely (leave the skin on)
Mix all the above in a really big bowl, this is gonna make a mess of latkes.
Some recipes call for you to put the mix into a cheesecloth, or in a colander to squeeze any extra moisture out of it. It seemed to work just fine without doing that.
Whisk 8-10 extra large or jumbo eggs, some pepper, and 6 or 7 tablespoons of matzo meal together. Mix it all in with the potatoes, onions and apples.
Pour in 1/3 to 1/2 a cup of olive oil in a large, hot pan. (You will need to add some more oil if it gets low.)
Scoop some of the mix into the oil and flatten it out, making a circle about 3-4 inches across. I used about 1/4 cup or a little less for each latke and was able to get 4 into the pan at a time. Fry them for 3:00-3:30 mins on each side. They should be nice and browned on the outside.
As you take them out, let as much oil drain back into the pan as possible, and put them in layers between paper towels to soak up any excess oil.
Smack hands of anyone coming near to “try” them.
My first batch didn’t have the apples. I think they were better WITH the apples. You could also mix in carrots or whatever else you like. That’s it. Enjoy.
Ventresca’s
Philadelphia Eagles Jeremiah Trotter, Sheldon Brown, Jason Avant, Kevin Kolb were at Ventresca Limited in Doylestown this evening. Melissa got tickets and took Logan, Gavin and their buddy Cole to meet the players and get autographs.
Pretty cool stuff, and nice guys for the boys to meet.
